Hence my question: what is suppose to appeal to me here? Everything about it has a strong "just another game"-vibe to it. I'm merely using the store front as starting point, and absolutely nothing about the game looks like it stands out to me. You are making one wrong assumption though: I am not yet judging your game. If the guy had just replied with a comment like this it would've been so much less offensive. The only thing I can say is that I made this game with lot of hard work and a ton of love, so your comments are inappropriate, especially because they are coming from someone who hasn't played the game yet. I really suggest you to play the game and, well, if at the end of the day you don't like it, what can I do? I don't like many AAA titles there. So, all in all, I accept your critics, but I think that they are based on a superficial judgement. Way more than what you can find on similar titles. And I think the art of ENCODYA stands up right away (at least for an indie project like ours) and helps the player immersion in the dystopian world we created.Ĥ- Music and Sounds of ENCODYA are very, deeply, taken care. We, however, created a unique style mixing 2D elements and 3D. And you'll never know it unless you play the game entirely.ģ- Many p'n'c games relies on pixel art or flat 2D. I don't want to spoil the story, but even if the starting points or characters are archetypes (and this is something totally common, ask Vladimir Propp), the narrative takes its own original path. We put tenderness, sweetness, lot of humor and a "kid friendly" approach, which is very uncommon to have in a dark genre like cyberpunk.Ģ- The narrative is very original. And so far we have had dozens of people loving it.īut let me now explain why I think ENCODYA is rather original:ġ- Cyberpunk is in 90% of the cases an adult oriented genre. And even if it isn't very original, who cares? You play it, you enjoy it, you love the story and the characters, you have fun. In this sense I think ENCODYA is pretty original and well made. My point is: it really doesn't matter if a game is about some topics that you saw already, but it's all about how you do it. But we are in 2021 and everything has been made already (Isaac Asimov wrote of relationships between humans and robots more than half a century ago, this hasn't stopped many movies, games, books about the same topic to come out).Īnd should we talk about the hundreds of "Love Stories" out there? If you have the impression that ENCODYA is "incredibly generic", I disagree.įirst of all, it could be true that a kid with a protective robot is something already seen, as well as some narrative dynamics. Well, first of all, I suggest you to play the game and if you have any critics after you played and went deep into the narrative, we can talk about it. Especially because coming from someone who hasn't played the game yet and apparently is having a not so nice attitude ("buy, review and refund" doesn't sound very fair). I guess my publisher shut down the discussion because it wasn't going anywhere. You pose a question: how does it look generic? I elaborate upon it as I did in the OP and you shut the discussion down - effectively censoring criticism.
